Top 5 Monsoon Weekend Trip Near Kolkata

1- Samsing

Location:
Nearest town: Jalpaiguri 
Distance: 665 km from Kolkata

Attractions at Samsing

Samsing is a small village and a tourist spot in the Malbazar subdivision of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal situated at an elevation of 3000 ft in the foothills in between Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts border. It is famous for its beautiful landscape with green tea gardens, hills, and forests, which attract the tourists. Here you can find the fusion of hills, plains, rivers, forest, tea-garden and villages. In fact, it is a cute tea garden inhabited by lovely and helpful Nepali people. Many local people are associated with tourism/ tea/timber-related businesses.

How to reach?

By Road: Samsing is located at a distance of 82 km. from Siliguri and it takes around 3 hours to reach from Siliguri.

By Rail: Saraighat Express from Howrah junc.

2. Mousuni Island

Location: West Bengal

Mousuni is a small island near Namkhana, West Bengal, India. It’s beauty lies in the confluence of the sea with the river. And golden sunshine on glistening sands. Be it monsoon or winter or early spring, bird lovers are bound to find their own slice of heaven here.

How to reach?

From Esplanade(Kolkata) take a bus for Namkhana. Then cross the river and on the other side of the river take a Bakkhali bound bus and get down at Sashmol bus stop only 7 km from Namkhana. From Sashmol Bus stop take a cycle van to reach Sashmol Ghat(around 20 mins). From Sashmol Ghat take a motorboat to cross the Chenai river to reach (Baghdanga)Mousuni.

3. Ajodhya hills

Location: Purulia
Nearest town: Bagmundi
Distance: 88 km or 54.7 miles

Attractions at Ajodhya Hills

The popular destination of the region and people come here to practice mountaineering and rock climbing. With a height of 700 m above sea level, the hill is a blend of unspoiled nature and rich mythological connections. The place is also well-known for its freshwater springs and stream. Recently the state government launched a number of ambitious projects in order to develop this emerging hill station. Mythology says that while Lord Rama along with his wife Sita was in exile, both of them spend some time here as well.

How to reach?

By Road: This place is connected by roadways with almost all parts of Bengal. From Kolkata, the distance is 250 kilometers and regular buses are available from Kolkata.

By Rail: Purulia Railway Station is the nearest one, which can be reached from Howrah. Trains are available at regular intervals.

By Air: Although there is an international airport in Kolkata, (NSCBI Airport), the nearest airport is located at Bokaro, which is only 76 kilometers away.

 4. Mon chasha, Paushi

Location: East Midnapore
Distance: about 150km

Attractions at Mon chasha

Mon Chasha is a blend of authentic village culture, pure earthen tradition, the cultural heritage of a rural life and a true sentiment of natural India. You will find wide species of fruits, flowers, vegetables, and spices. Visit Ishani and Naitri, the huge fish tanks (jheel). You can find large numbers of fish including Rui, Katla, Mrigel, Telapia, Puti, Mourala and more. For the conservation of traditional cultural heritage, “Sahajiya” has been built, which is a platform for local cultural performances as Chhau, Raibneshe Jatra Pala, Baul Fakir Darbesh and other programmes.

How to reach?

By Road: You can avail the trekker service from Kalinagar Bus Stop to Paushi. Buses are also available from Kolkata to Contai, which takes about 4 hours to reach Contai, from there you can also take a rickshaw for Mon Chasha Eco Village district.

By Rail: Tamralipta Express from Howrah station at 6.40 in the morning and reach Contai at 9 and take an auto to Monchasha Eco Village resort, or board Howrah Digha Superfast Express at 11.10 in the morning from Howrah and reach Contai at 1.50 in the noon and take an auto or a rickshaw to Mon Chasha. Two other trains connecting Howrah and Cointai are Paharia Express and Kandari Express, leaving Howrah at 10.44am and 4.50 in the evening respectively. Pick up and drop services are available from Contai (Kanthi) railway station and Kalinagar Bus Stop by Maruti Van or Ambassador Car.

5. New Bakkhali

 

Location: West Bengal
Nearest town: Bakkhali
Distance: 70 miles from Kolkata

By Rail: The nearest rail station is at Namkhana. There are regular trains from Sealdah via Lakshmikantapur and Kakdwip to Namkhana.
