Why Prabhas rejected Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat?

Padmavaat was the first big blockbuster of 2018. The film ran into major controversies before it could hit the screens, with Hindu outfits baying for the filmmaker’s blood. But Padmaavat emerged victorious at the box office upon released on 25 January this year.

In Padmaavat, Shahid Kapoor played the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh. But director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is said to have first offered the role of Ratan Singh to Baahubali star Prabhas. According to the report, on a website, Bansali added that he was completely bowled over by Prabhas’s intensity and performance in Baahubali 2015. Then he approached Prabhas for the role of Ratan Singh in Padmaavat. The roaring success of the first Baahubali too played a part in Bhansali’s proposal to Prabhas.

The reason behind Prabhas’s rejection

Prabhas, who was working on Baahubali 2 back then, was reportedly interested in collaborating with Bhansali on a project like Padmaavat.

However, once he heard the story and his role in the film, Prabhas lost interest in the project, say reports.

By the time Prabhas was offered the role in Padmavaat, he had spent five grueling years shooting for Baahubali. The actor reportedly wanted a role that was nothing less than Deepika Padukone’s in Padmaavat.

After Prabhas’s rejection, the makers of Padmaavat went to Shahid Kapoor with the role and the latter was only too happy to accept it. Shahid was trying to recover from the disaster that was Shaandaar back then and gave his nod to Padmaavat. Prabhas will next be seen in upcoming film Saaho opposite to Shraddha Kapoor.
